A Factory Licence is generally required for premises in Gujarat where a manufacturing process is carried on with:
- 10 or more workers with the aid of power, or
- 20 or more workers without the aid of power,
as prescribed under the Factories Act, 1948 and the Gujarat Factories Rules, 1963.
Factories engaged in hazardous processes, chemicals, explosives, petroleum products, gases, pharmaceuticals, paints, pesticides, solvents, or other notified hazardous manufacturing activities may also be subject to additional approvals, safety requirements, and statutory compliances under applicable Central and State laws.
Operating without a valid Factory Licence may attract notices, penalties, prosecution, or other action under the applicable provisions of the Factories Act, 1948and the Gujarat Factories Rules, 1963.
A Factory Licence in Gujarat is generally valid up to 31st December of the licence period. Renewal applications should be submitted at least two months before expiry, along with the prescribed fee and supporting documents, as per the Gujarat Factories Rules, 1963.
